On 12:30pm, Saturday 2rd May 2009 at the MCM Expo, ExCel Center, London, UK a Guinness World Record was broken! This record was the:
Largest Gathering of people dressed as Video Game CharactersThe first record was set by SEGA at only
80 Cosplayers in March 2008. However that record was then broken by Germany in October 2008 with
337 cosplayers, then just one week after, the MCM Expo in London UK broke the record with
342 Cosplayers. Who would of guessed that in May 2009 the MCM Expo would be back to break their own Guinness World Record with
376 cosplayers!!
Now there has been debate that America holds the Guinness World Record in the Anime Convention Akon with over 700 cosplayers. That is the unofficial world record, because they did not satisfy all the requirements that the Guinness World Records Team established to autheticate the World Record. The MCM Expo in London UK had fully satisfied all the requirments and were given the Official Guinness World Record Certificate pictured center in the photo which means it is official! The UK might not be the greatest cosplaying nation in the world, but atleast we can organise a world record! Here is the official extract below:
registered participants were individually verified, numbered and photographed to provide physical confirmation of the attempt, and once complete the Guinness World Records team validated the result as the brand new world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as video game charactersCLICK HERE for the previous Guinness World Record
