The Hyorinmaru Ring

For my school project I had to design a piece of jewellery using the process of "Hot Wax Casting". For my project I decided to make a ring. I was given a lump of wax and I had to cut and smooth the wax until it resembled the shape of my ring. The wax ring was then sent to a factory for the "Hot Wax Casting". What this process is, the wax ring is put in a casing with a hole in the bottom. Liquid cement is poured in encompassing the wax ring. When the liquid cement hardens the casing is heated over 100 celcius so that the wax melts and comes out of the hole at the bottom. When the wax is melted whats left behind is a mould from the liquid cement. Molten metal is then poured in to form the actual ring. It then gets sent back to me.

Now the ring looked like a piece of scrap metal when this process was done. So I had to spend 9 hours using finger, hand files, silicon carbide paper and emery cloth to smooth the ring. Then I spent 1 hour on the buffing machine to polish the ring. The buffing machine was the only machinery I used. However the holes
you see in the face of the ring are impurities of the metal. I could not get rid of
them, or start the ring again so I left them. In reality this ring is huge and weighs
quite alot for a ring. Though its Bleach jewellery can't get cooler then that.
