The Manga Tsuba Designs: Pt 10 by chioky The Manga Tsuba Designs: Pt 10 by chioky
:star: The Manga Tsuba Index

The purpose of these drawings is to help swordmakers and propmakers. When it comes to making katana's or zanpakuto's most of the time the tsuba is the most unique part of the sword. It is the part of the katana which has most of design. So I drew up these closely detailed and accurate measurements of these tsuba's. With these tsuba's they act as a reference when your going to attempt to make the sword. If you use a scene from a anime or manga to make use reference for your tsuba, it might be flawed. So I have saved you the trouble and drawn them all out clearly, with measurements so you can print and cut them out.

:bulletblue: Shakugan no Shana - Nietono no Shana: The katana translates to "Vairocana of the Offering Room" and is wielded by Shana. Tenmoku Ikko who was searching for a worthy opponent to whom he could give his sword to, he ended up giving it to a girl called Shana after she defeated him. I must say I like the design of this tsuba quite alot, I actually saw a musashi which is a brand name of sword with the exact same tsuba from it. Perhaps the anime can claim copyright on the design of the tsuba if it wanted to.

:bulletblue: Shamen King - Harusame: It is refered to as the Sword of Light and states it is the last sword ever forged by Mosuke. When the sword is stolen from the museum and Amidamaru and Mosuke's childhood is revealed, the dub refers to the same sword as "Spring Rain" (Harusame) and the first true sword Mosuke has forged for Amidamaru. As a result, Amidamaru refers to Spring Rain as Mosuke's first sword and the Sword of Light as his last when originally the swords were one and the same in the original and translated versions of the manga and the Japanese version of the anime.

:bulletblue: Important Notes:

. ALL these guards slide into swords with a thicnkess of 5 mm and 30 mm long, there are some exceptions.
.The parrallel lines are the rims of the guards that you cut out of balsa wood and glue onto the main guard.
.Download the full version, then copy and paste it, print it off then cut it out with scissors.
.Once it the paper tsuba is cut out, then draw around it with a pencil on the wood, then cut it out to finish.

I wish Nietono no Shana's tsuba was more rounded, like in the Musashi model you mention; it's currently my only real reference for being able to have this forged in iron to go on my Nietono no Shana shinken. Still, you saved be a bunch with this.

If you still need details on Nietono no Shana, it was created by a person called Tenmoku Ikko who was searching for a worthy opponent to whom he could give his sword to, he ended up giving it to a girl called Shana after she defeated him ^^ i recently watched Shakugan no Shana~ you could probably find out more on wikipedia

They're both amazing. Manga-version Harusame is my favourite. But it's Shaman King, not "Shamen". ^^;

Harusame was originally used by the samurai named Amidamaru, who would later be the Guardian Spirit of Asakura Yoh.

Amidamaru was training to be a samurai when he was still very young in order to drive away bandits and protect the orphans he was living with. He always used to break his sword when he was young, so his very good friend Mosuke would always made a new sword after scolding him for breaking another one of his swords as they were too poor to afford good strong steel. Amidamaru was an honorable samurai who refused to steal swords from the corpses and skeletons that were found scattered across the land at the time.
Mosuke, being a very skilled swordsmith, was able to make a sword using his father's knife. The sword cut very well and Amidamaru was so grateful for the sacrifice that Mosuke made that he cried. Mosuke asked if he was crying, but Amidamaru pretends that some raindrops splashed on his face, therefore he names the katana "Harusame"(春雨;), which means "Spring Rain".
When both Amidamaru and Mosuke grew older, they were employed by a daimyou who was impressed with Amidamaru's skills as a samurai and Mosuke's skills as a swordsmith.
They worked for him happily, but it did not last long. Amidamaru found out about their daimyou's greed when he asked him to kill Mosuke so that he won't make a sword which would be better than Harusame. Amidamaru was at a dilemma because he owes unrequited loyalty to both the daimyou and his friend.
Amidamaru and Mosuke met at the tree on Monument Hill where Amidamaru told Mosuke what the daimyou told him. At first Mosuke asked Amidamaru to just kill him because an order from a daimyou was an absolute order for a samurai. Amidamaru, being loyal to Mosuke, told him to run away and that he would accept the crime. Mosuke asked him to give him the Harusame so he could fix it up and give it to him later that night. Amidamaru agreed and he gave Mosuke his oath that he would wait for him at that very spot. Sadly, someone spied on their conversation and informed the daimyou who ordered his men to kill Mosuke. The men then went up the hill hoping to kill Amidamaru, but Amidamaru killed them all. He died of exhaustion because he did not have the Harusame. Mosuke was killed not long after, arriving at the hill too late to present the sword because he had chosen to spend more time perfecting the blade.
Amidamaru's numerous killing earned him a bad reputation which was carried all the way to the present time.

Is that information enough? ;P

:XD: That's OK.
But the information you got is meaningless to the story of the sword itself. It's only a comparison between the English anime version and the original Japanese one. The "Sword of Light" doesn't even exist originally. It's only named like that when Yoh achieves his Over Soul "Spirit of Sword".

Harusame

The English anime initially refers to the Harusame as the Sword of Light and states it is the last sword ever forged by Mosuke. This is the also the sword used by Yoh as a medium for his oversoul.

and its my fave sword lol, the anime one is plain :P
