The Manga Tsuba Designs: Pt 9

The Manga Tsuba Index

The purpose of these drawings is to help swordmakers and propmakers. When it comes to making katana's or zanpakuto's most of the time the tsuba is the most unique part of the sword. It is the part of the katana which has most of design. So I drew up these closely detailed and accurate measurements of these tsuba's. With these tsuba's they act as a reference when your going to attempt to make the sword. If you use a scene from a anime or manga to make use reference for your tsuba, it might be flawed. So I have saved you the trouble and drawn them all out clearly, with measurements so you can print and cut them out.

Samurai Champloo - Z Eyes Katana: My gosh, this was a difficult tsuba to draw in a while, I hate rounded squares. Also theres no actual name for Jin's katana, but this was the name I lifted off a website that sells replica swords, better with a name then no name. I expect this tsuba to be the hardest to make for me, because theres not a single straight line in the tsuba besides the center. Trying to squeeze in detail parts into a tsuba is like a can of sardines, it has to be perfect and no spaces.

Samurai Champloo - Typhoon Swell: I will first like to say Typhoon Swell is one of the most awesome names for a sword I have heard. This sword is used by Mugen, and I have not really seen a sword like this before, which makes Mugen even more of a polar opposite against Jin. I am pretty sure that this tsuba I have drawn is not symetrical, I tried tracing one side out onto the other, but it does not seem to have come out well. I always wonder though how mugen actually sheaths his sword, because its a fabric sheath on his back but what does the blade feed into?

Important Notes:

. ALL these guards slide into swords with a thicnkess of 5 mm and 30 mm long, there are some exceptions.
.The parrallel lines are the rims of the guards that you cut out of balsa wood and glue onto the main guard.
.Download the full version, then copy and paste it, print it off then cut it out with scissors.
.Once it the paper tsuba is cut out, then draw around it with a pencil on the wood, then cut it out to finish.
