Zanpakuto Tsuba Designs: Pt 19

The Zanpakuto Tsuba Index

The purpose of these drawings is to help swordmakers and propmakers. When it comes to making katana's or zanpakuto's most of the time the tsuba is the most unique part of the sword. It is the part of the katana which has most of design. So I drew up these closely detailed and accurate measurements of these tsuba's. With these tsuba's they act as a reference when your going to attempt to make the sword. If you use a scene from a anime or manga to make use reference for your tsuba, it might be flawed. So I have saved you the trouble and drawn them all out clearly, with measurements so you can print and cut them out.

Ashisogi Jizo: I believe this tsuba was, the hardest to draw, the longest to draw, the most ugliest tsuba, the largest tsuba, the most irregular tsuba, the most artistic tsuba and hardest tsuba to make ever. Why does mayuri have to have such a grotesque tsuba, well I guess it matches his personality I guess. It was quite difficult to draw the tsuba to scale while keeping the baby's dimension on the tsuba correct. The tsuba also had no definite start or end, the handle kind of merges into the tsuba and the tsuba then merges into the blades. It was also quite difficult to know which was detail and which was shading on the reference pictures of the tsuba.

Fornicaras: If we have mayuri's tsuba then in turn he must be paired with sazael's tsuba aswell. Firstly again yep its 3D and its decorated with these small balls. Orginally I thought they were placed randomly however that was just the view points of the tsuba from the pictures. It was then I noticed that a straight on picture of the tsuba showed they were aligned in alignment. So I picked up a coin and start drawing in the circles to show where the balls were placed. How you could actually replicate those kind of details when making the sword I have trouble thinking. Perhaps the best choice is just to use polystyrene balls cut up.

Important Notes:

. ALL these guards slide into swords with a thicnkess of 5 mm and 30 mm long, there are some exceptions.
.The parrallel lines are the rims of the guards that you cut out of balsa wood and glue onto the main guard.
.Download the full version, then copy and paste it, print it off then cut it out with scissors.
.Once it the paper tsuba is cut out, then draw around it with a pencil on the wood, then cut it out to finish.
