The Future Improvements of Swordmaking
Now of course if you have read my "scheme for world domination" you will know that Im going to be making alot of swords of a different variety from animes to games. It doesnt take a genius to know that I need to raise my level of swordmaking to accomidate the higher detail and precision of these future swords. Ive actually been only making bleach zanpakutos which are not that different from katana's. They are pretty simple to make and just one of the reasons why I have decided to make so many Bleach Zanpakutos. However If I am going to succeed in the future I need to show development and improvement in my work as a swordmaker and as an artist. I have hundreds and soon to be thousands of fans who admire my swordmaking, so it is my duty to improve my skills to achieve everybodys expectations. So I have compiled a small list of improvements.
Jelutong Now what is Jelutong? Jelutong is a hardwood that grows in Malaysia, Borneo, and Sumatra. Now if its hardwood that means it can whitstand a certain degree of swordfighting. Unlike soft woods after a light hit it could snap the blade in half. With a hardwood it wont but the downside is it takes ages to work with using hand tools. However Jelutong is:
Straight grained with fine, even texture. Creamy-white sapwood and heartwood, maturing to a pale straw-yellow.
Light, soft, brittle, weak with good stability in service and low decay resistance, Works easily with both and and power tools and planes to a nice, clean surface. Glues, screws, and nails without difficulty. Stains,
paints, and varnishes fairly well. Popular for model making, patterns, wooden shoes, battery separators, and drawing boards. Also used for interior joinery and corestock for doors.
Excellent wood for carving and sculpture due to its softness. Latex in the wood is extracted for chewing gum.
Jelutong is a wood that is easy to work with using hand tools just like a soft wood. However Jelutong is also a hardwood meaning the grain is very small but tightly packed together meaning great strengh. So Jelutong is both a strong wood but easy enough to work with aswell!!
Airbrushing: Now painting my swords contributes quite a majority of the visual satisfaction of my swords. I have just been using spray paints becuase it gives it a nice even coat. However spraypainting only goes so far. If I decided to use Airbrushing I could actually make wood gleam like metal with a certain mixture of paints. Airbrushing unlike spray painting is alot smoother giving the appearence of a polished appearence. This would raise the quality of my swordmaking quite alot however of course there are problems.
The problems are airbrushing equipment and paints COST ALOT, and when I mean alot I mean alot more then spraypaints could ever cost. Actually buying all the individual paints could burn a hole in my pocket. Now I buy only cheap materials for when it comes to swordmaking but suddenly buying airbrush sets will be a major problem and setback.
Tsukamaki: How the japanese swordmakers actually wrapped their katana's was to use to art of tsukamaki. Actually there is over 20 different styles of tsukamaki and I can currently only do one. I am sure I have complained how hard it was to actually do some handle wrapping but the secret was to make it REALLY tight and the handle has to be quite abrasive. If I can improve my tsukamaki to Japanese swordmaker level, then I can modify this to create western styles of handle wrapping, using my knowledge from japanese tsukamaki.
The only problem I face is learning how to actually do this, now this might seem simple but when it comes to swordmaking this is by far the hardest part of swordmaking for me. It just sends my brain in a state of spasm that brings my unevitable death with a splattered brain. Yep for me learning tsukamaki is just that difficult.
Chisel Carving: Now chisel carving is the secret to making anytype of sword. Anytype of 3D sword can be made like the master sword can be made by a large block of wood and a variety of chisels. Using chisels brings forth the art of wood scuplting which is the only way to create some details on some swords. Using chisels to carve out details on a wooden sword, opens a doorway to be able create any sword of any detail of any size.
Now of course the problem is I actually have to learn how to carve using chisels, which I assure you, you cant learn over night. Me with my shoddy adaption skills to new skills will make this challenge a very hard one. That and I dont have that many chisels to use.
There we go there are 4 major improvements of swordmaking that I can do to raise my swordmaking to a new level. If I can acomplish all 4 of these improvements to a high standard then I can be one of the top wooden swordmakers not just on deviantart but the world!! okey maybe thats going too far im just doing this as hobby not a professional. However If I do complete this improvements I WILL acomplish my goal of "Raising global the awareness of Swordmaking as an art form" They say only talented people get 1 million page views on this site, however I will acomplish this feat by hard work!!

Stay in the phazon. MetroidManiac out.
as for the other, i think if you can master them all you'll be making something close to perfect swords, and you'll be able to make mostly anything..

I know, modeling wood, or even better, forging a sword with metal, is a pretty unique experience, and give for sure a little bit of soul to your great works.
But fiberglass will give for sure an easier way to create complex shapes, and, better of all, an easier way to make molds to replicate them.
The spirit of swordsmaking is high and noble, but on our modern society, the merchant spirit will make you survive.
D'you think that you can't make them cooperating, having the merchant one making material richness, to have the raw materials needed for the purest swordsmaking?
IMHO, if you produce some piece in fiberglass for cospa and so on, you'll sell them as bread.
Anyway, that was a mere lesser fiend tough...
