Ouran High School Host Club by Bones

Ouran Highschool Host Club was first a manga created by Bisco Hatori from August 2003 and is still ongoing with 13 volumes. The the animation studo Bones decided to animate Ouran Highschool Host Club and create a 26 episode long TV anime series. The TV anime series began April 2006 and ended September 2006. Now this was also another difficult choice on whether you should read the manga first, or watch the anime first. Even though the manga does have the full story and is still ongoing, for the true comedy of Ouran High School Host Club it is best seen in the anime. This is because the animation, voice acting and music make the comedy much more hilarious then in the manga! and you should be watching Ouran Highschool Host Club for laughs!

Plot/Story (:star::star::star::star-empty::star-empty:)

Haruhi Fujioka receives a scholarship with the prestigious Ouran Academy. Haruhi while checking out the academy stumbles upon the third music room to which when she opens the doors, is greeted by  group of six extremely attractive male students. These six men form a group called the "Ouran Host Club" whose mission is to entertain female clients. Haruhi from common backgrounds finds the host club egotistical because with their wealth they have a high opinion of themselves. Haruhi tries to escape the host club and forever erase these moments from her mind when she accidentally breaks an antique vase valued at ¥8,000,000. Thus haruhi has to work off the debt as a servant. However when the host club finds out she is a girl, they decide to make her a host and thus becoming the seventh member of the prestigious host club.

If there is one thing I can praise ouran Highschool Host Club for and that is it's unique plotline. The anime is essentially a reverse harem romance, which is quite rare as a harem anime will always have one guy and five girls. Where in Ouran Highschool Host Club we have one girl, impersonating a boy who is surrounded by 6 boys! I just love how fresh this plotline is it really breaks the trend in generic harem animes. Yet being a reverse harem would not be as successfull if it did not have the key vital ingrediant, which is the comedy. The romantic comedy focuses on the relationships within and without the Club and satirizes the clichés and stereotypes that endure in series aimed at girls. The story casually breaks the fourth wall in fiction and they always do it as hilariously as possible! The plot starts out simple yet when it develops and become more serious it is very easy to follow. The only downside is, the anime ended terribly.

Characters (:star::star::star::star::star-empty:)

Haruhi Fujioka: Haruhi is the "natural type" and one of the most unique female characters you will come across. She is the main female protaganist of the anime however she plays the part of a male to fit within the Host Club. It's that she does not mind being mistaken for a boy because not only does she have no intrest in romance, she believes that the person on the inside is always better then what you see on the outside. Where Haruhi truly shines is that she is from common backgrounds and compared to the rest of the extremely wealthy members of the host club they always think she is poor! the sheer difference in wealth and status between the characters always makes Haruhi sneer.

Tamaki Suoh: Tamaki Suoh is the president of the Host club and the "Prince type". He is extremely passionate and kind, always ready to help people, and has an interest in many things. Not only is he the most physically attractive but he is proberbly the most gentlemanly character in the entire manga. However his family is also one of the wealthiest in the ouran school commanding a great deal of influence throughout japan. Wow it seems he has many great qualities eh? well he has as many good qualities as he has bad ones. This is because he can be very silly and melodramatic at times, and somewhat selfish and narcissistic. However most of the time he is absentminded when doing this.

Kyoya Ootori: Kyoya is the vice president of the Host club and the "Cool type". He is most commonly known as the "mother" of the host club, while Tamaki is known as father. However he is mostly known as the "Shadow king" because even though Tamaki is president and in control, Kyoya really does most of the work to ensure the Host Club always performs excellently. Always seen with his notebook Kyoya handles all the finances within the Host Club as he is the smartest person within the Host Club. His family is proberbly the second richest behind the Suoh family and originally Kyoya was only friends with Tamaki to increase the families partnership, however in time they become best friends.

Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin: They are identical twins who used to reject others and are the "Little Devil types". However they should be known more as the twincest types as fan girls prefer to go for those kinda guys more. As children they were inseperatable and never believed in having friends as the two of them together was all they needed in the world. With this cold and harsh attitude the both shared, they did not really open up towards people until they joined the Host Club. While in the host club they like to mess around with female clients in a game of "guess the hitachiin" which is kinda difficult. However Haruhi without fails always guesses which one is who, and its always funny.

Mitsukuni Haninozuka: Mostly known as "Honey" he is the Loli-Shota type. He looks like an elementary school child rather than the 17-year-old third-year student which he actually is, which I dislike in a character. However Honey makes up for it being overly cute and for some reason 4 foot tall. He loves eating sweets, he can eat a mountain of sweets, though just watch out when he gets a tooth ache!  Honey carries a plush bunny (called "Usa-chan") around with him everywhere he goes to increase his shota type image. However Honey is actually deceptively strong and highly skilled in martial arts as he used to be the head of the Ouran Martial Arts team, owning everybody.

Takashi Morinozuka: Also known as "Mori" and is the strong but silent type because he is the tall and stoic character. He almost has no dialouge in the anime good gosh, you would be hard pressed to listen to him speak more then 2 words in an episode. This is why he is always constantly last in character places when it comes to the Host Club. Anyway he is the guardian of Honey, as their families are joined in a master servant relationship. Even though the servant-master bond was technically broken, Mori still serves faithfully as Honey's guardian and best friend. Mori is the tallest and strongest member of the Ouran Host Club and also a capable swordsman.

Art/Theme (:star::star::star::star-empty::star-empty:)

Its hard to discribe the animation quality in Ouran Highschool host club, I guess it is quite good as most of the anime scenes are all very colourfull with bright and flowery tones. Yet there is really not much more to say then that because the anime itself is not very detailed, if you are watching Ouran then you should not really be expecting some really gorgeous animation quality. However ussually in the gag or comedy scenes, the animation really does its job in trying to make it much more funnier then it is! though I think in the end the animation quality in the anime is alot better then the manga art style in the, well you know the manga I guess.

The LULZ Factor (:star::star::star::star::star-empty:)

haha! Oh my god you would be suprised at how funny this anime is. This anime takes the image of what we think rich people are like, and then multiply it by a thousand. When there is such a large divide between classes of the rich and the poor, there is just humour waiting to burst out. What normal people do in their everyday lives the rich people of ouran high school are terribly fascinated about it. So yes I believe this manga's key humour point is exaggerate by the characters. They can sometimes blow things so out of proportion things dont even become sane anymore. The main character haruhi with a normal background living her normal day lives. But to the Ouran High School Host Club they find Haruhi really fascinating, seeing her reactions is hilarious.

Overall/Closing (:star::star::star::star-half::star-empty:)

You should just tottally watch Ouran Highschool Host Club, just for the comedy, it is so hilarious it is almost a guarenteed laugh or giggle, or even a smile atleast! The plotline is really nice and simple and easy to follow as every episode has a new adventure with a central plotlne. However that central plotline is kinda, well it gets rushed towards the end, and does not make sense at all. The ending of the anime is really poor, I suggest reading the manga after the anime starts to deviate into filler crap. Though the other truly great thing about ouran is the charcters, especially the ones of the host club. You have all the characters with their different personalities, yet they all have the wealthy egotisical attitude that you would expect. It is seeing haruhi's reactions to all these events make the anime gold! However with no real ending it gets an 8/10, and if it did a 9/10 at most.
